![]() One of the most important fundamentals by which to analyze a typeface is that of texture. Keep in mind that Papyrus is what you would call a “display” font, which means it was never intended to be used in blocks of body copy in the first place – not that that has stopped anyone from using it for their term paper on ancient Mesopotamian economics.Įven though Papyrus is a display font, seeing it set in body copy still helps us analyze how well it balances visual weight. Here I’ve set blocks of body copy in Papyrus, Garamond, and Comic Sans. So, I set out to compare and contrast the qualities of Comic Sans and Papyrus with the qualities of the most beloved typeface – Garamond. If Papyrus is the second-most hated font, next to Comic Sans, it makes sense to define Papyrus’s “bad”-ness in comparison with Comic Sans. Surprisingly, I didn’t find this to be true. If it’s so hated, clearly it must be lacking in fundamentals. To start off, let’s look at Papyrus’s fundamentals as a typeface. The surprisingly solid typographic fundamentals of Papyrus One that sends an important message about the potential downfall of civilization. I believe that James Cameron’s use of Papyrus was an artistic choice. And no, not necessarily because of any aesthetic quality the font has. The most surprising finding of all was that Papyrus could potentially be the perfect font for the film Avatar. There were things I learned about Papyrus that deepened my dislike of the font, but there were other things that helped me appreciate it. (I wish I was kidding.) I’ve edited it down to this long blog post. I spent over a year writing a novel’s worth of words trying to untangle the mess. So, I set about the arduous task of breaking down Why You Hate Papyrus. ![]() It’s another thing entirely for it to be used to represent what would become the top-grossing movie of all time. Papyrus and Temmie's relationship is identical to that of Undertale Sans and Flowey's relationship, with Temmie now calling Papyrus a " smoking beanpole". Despite how Papyrus doesn't like making promises, he tries to keep Asgore's promise to keep Chara safe. They make bad puns and knock-knock jokes, and are canonically friends. Papyrus and Asgore's relationship is close since they always share what they like. Papyrus is confirmed to be the older brother. They share the same relationship as Classic Sans and Papyrus, though the roles are swapped. Just like Undertale Sans, Papyrus cares about Sans and doesn't want anything bad to happen to him. Blue Attacks: Papyrus can do attacks that do not deal damage as long as the target remains still.Ĭhara has little into on them in Underswap, but using the information that they swap with Frisk it can be assumed Papyrus and Chara's relationship is the same as Sans and Frisk's relationship in Undertale.Blue Magic: Papyrus can control and alter the effect of gravity on anything he can bring an entity to himself or throw it.Bone Manipulation: Papyrus has the ability to create and manipulate bones to his will.Gaster Blasters: Devices resembling a skull that Papyrus can use to shoot large beams.He also hates making promises just like Classic Sans. He enjoys fantasy stories and loves to drink honey. He enjoys playing pranks and the fact he entertains at NTT resort hints that he may be a talented jokester. He is also observant Papyrus reads the protagonist's expressions and can often know when they already done certain things. ![]() Though Papyrus is usually agreeable, he can be serious in particular events. Conversely, he suggests that is knowledge could be "a bad excuse for being lazy." However, despite this, Papyrus is more energetic than Undertale Sans. He wonders if his indolence stems of from his knowledge that any progress he makes will be erased when the timeline resets. His laziness is a combination of nihilism and apathy. Papyrus is laid back and flippant, often fooling around on the job and taking breaks. He wears an orange hoodie, usually with "indirect text posts" written on it and green shorts with a pair of orange sneakers. Papyrus appears as a tall lengthy skeleton with a small toothy grin, skeletal hands and small eye sockets.
